Casper Rotary Club

Rotary International District 5440 - Casper, Wyoming USA

Welcome

Welcome to Casper, Wyoming and the home of the
Casper Rotary Club.

Rotary was founded on the basis of exchanging information with people in diversified careers, fellowship and community service.  It quickly became an idea whose time had come and spread into international service.  Where else can you enjoy the fellowship of your community leaders, get involved with worthwhile community projects, meet people from all over the world and enjoy a good program?

As with any worthwhile endeavor, you will get out of Rotary much more than you put into it.  However, you must make an effort to put something into it.  This is not a lunch club; you can eat lunch anywhere.  This is a service club.  Rotary is the number one service club in the world.  It will expose you to a wide range of service projects in your community as well as around the world.  It will give you a chance to give back to your community some of the benefits your community has given you.

Rotary will also allow you the opportunity to make a difference in the world.  Yes, the world.  In 1985, Rotary International initiated a worldwide vaccine program.  Its purpose was to immunize the children of the world against the five major childhood diseases.  This program wiped out polio in the western hemisphere as of September 1994.  When this program is complete in the year 2005, Rotary will have directly or indirectly affected the lives of one out of four people living on earth.

Come join us and become an active member of your club.  If you are looking for a place just to have lunch, you may want to keep looking.  If you are looking for a way to serve your community and in the world, come join us.  You will be rewarded in ways you never imagined!

Taken from the Rotary Club of Casper’s
The First 75 Years 1919-1994.

The Casper Rotary Club was originally organized March 12, 1919.  The 15 Charter Members were as follows:  Earl C. Boyle, J.T. Gratiot, Pres., J.W. Johnson, Dr. J.C. Kamp, W.W. Keefe, Julian Lever, L.F. McMahon, Secy., George B. Nelson, L.A. Reed, E.J. Schulte, Carl F. Shumaker, Treas., A. E. Starrett, Otis L. Walker, Ira G. Wetherill and Marion P. Wheeler.

The club was slow in getting started.  It was not until December 22 that their District Governor, Roger H. Motten. Called on the club and presented them with their Charter.  For the first year they rotated their meetings between their various places of business and the hotels.

Their principal activity was an effort to acquire Section 36 south of town for city park purposes and also in cooperation with the National Fuel Administration to make a supply of coal available to Casper during the winter months.  Committees interviewed the several coal mine owners who had furnished coal in the past and also called on industrial concerns relative to the installation of oil burners.

A Boy’s Committee with M.P. Wheeler as chairman solicited and received a loan from the club of $100 to help a boy who had received an appointment to West Point and thereby established our Student Loan Fund.
