Dear Rotarian, An exciting program is Rotary Friendship Exchange, which gives Rotarians and their partners the opportunity to experience other cultures firsthand, by participating reciprocal visits with Rotarians from other countries. District 5440 had a very successful exchange with Australia in 2005, when many of you made friends with the Aussie team at our Steamboat Springs District Conference.
Friendship Exchange is considered the best bargain in international travel, since participants home-stay with Rotarians and are hosted to many activities often unavailable to individual travelers.
We are planning an exchange in Rotary Year 2007-2008, with District 1390 in southern Finland, north of Helsinki. District Governor Rouhesmaa is enthusiastic to do an exchange, but it is conditional on his being able to appoint a qualified exchange chair. I hope to get the go-ahead soon.
Meanwhile I would like solicit tentative commitments from Rotarians in our district. Here is the preliminary information I have: Outgoing team would be seven Rotarians and spouses or single Rotarians, 14 persons total. Trip would occur in April, 2008. Duration of the trip would be approximately 18 days. Team would fly directly from Denver to Helsinki. All costs are funded by participants. Estimated per-person costs are: Group-rate airfare would be about $900 Lodging two nights in Helsinki 250 Ground transportation 250 District 1390 conference registration fee 150 Non-hosted and club meeting meals 200 Admission and activity fees 80 Miscellaneous expenditures including gratuities 180 Per participant trip expense (estimated) $2,010
